The Law of Attraction

A long time ago I read a book called The Power by Rhonda Byrne, her look on the world was a very insightful one and some elements of her ‘theory’ if you could call it that I didn’t wholly agree with. There was one thing that I have taken from that book and firmly believe in. Something I think we should all believe in and can relate to; The Law of Attraction. This is the theory that we as humans get what we give out. What this means is that if you see a miserable person walking down the street, they are cursing at everything, appear very aggressive and short tempered as well as cold and generally present a negative energy and you’re a positive person, a happy and content person at that current moment you may avoid this negative and miserable person; this miserable person will be more likely to attract bad events and bad people. Another example would be a student who is convinced they will fail their examinations and fail school in general; it is not being convinced they will fail that makes them fail but the actions that comes with this negative attitude. What are these actions? No revision, not completing homework, doing any coursework half-heartedly and rushing it. Then the results? Failure. There ‘theory’ was proved and they believe their feelings to be right always thus constantly attracting bad things. Here’s a quote from the book itself and I will leave it here for your reflection, reason and application of your own experience.

‘The law of attraction is unfailingly giving you every single thing in your life based on what you’re giving out. You magnetize and receive the circumstances of wealth, health, relationships, your job, and every single event and experience in your life, based on your thoughts and feelings you’re giving out. Give out positive thoughts and feelings about money, and you magnetize positive circumstances, people and events that bring more money to you. Give out negative thoughts and feelings about money and you magnetize negative circumstances, people and events that cause you to have lack of money. As surely as you think and feel the law of attraction is responding to you. It doesn’t matter whether your thoughts and feelings are good or bad, you are giving them out, and they will return to you as automatically and precisely as an echo returns the same word you send out. But this means that you can change your life by changing your thoughts and feelings.’

Now, I don’t believe that what she is saying that everything that happens in your life is due to how you think. For example if someone in your life was diagnosed with Cancer this clearly isn’t because of how you think. And I don’t believe she is also saying if you think good things then good things will happen. I believe what this means to say, and she does elaborate in the book, that if you think good things will happen ad you truly want them to you will work towards them happening. And the last part of this quote rings true for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

This, like I’ve said, is just something you could reflect on and think about or simply enjoy.
